Console Tables - Perfect For Giving Personality to Your Foyer. When is the last time you really thought about your foyer? Chances are, if you are like most people, the entryway, or foyer, is a part of the house that you gloss over. You bring people in, take their coats and shuffle them right past this area of your home. Why is it that the part of your home that is the first impression people get of your home is one that you ignore. If you are like a lot of people the reason is not that you just don`t appreciate the foyer, you simply don`t know what to do with it.
Back in the 20s, the majority of the furniture on the market was wooden and heavy - dark woods. Pieces that had been carved and shaped into furniture works of art were commonly seen in homes. But then a movement started where less was more. The modernism movement replaced those heavy pieces of wood and thick padded and upholstered pieces with simple and sleek metal designs. Shiny polished metal, was the key to this type of furniture originally, with the whole idea being to replace all those heavy looking and heavy feeling pieces with light and airy furniture designs.
In the living room, a modern sofa is going to be cut more crisp and sleek than other sofas. When you take out all those extra fluffy pillows, cushions and claw feet from the equation, you get more space. Every inch saved on the sofa space is another inch of floor for you. Modern tables aren`t going to have cabriole legs sticking out, or any other pieces that make them take up more space than they need to. They will be sleek, well thought out pieces of furniture.
Perhaps one of the best reasons to have console tables in your living room is to clean up quick for unexpected company. Imagine you get five minutes warning that someone is coming over. You want the place to look nice, but this is the family living room and there are books, magazines, remotes and other small items all over the place. These items can be quickly tucked away in the console tables, hidden from the view of your guests, who will think you keep a spotless home, and later brought back out for everyone to use.
